Sometimes I Forget (Part 3)

This is the third and final installment in my "Sometimes I forget" series of pictures. Want to see the first two entries? Click Part 1 and/or Part 2 .

PreviewThis is a picture of Cobe (pronounced like Coby). Doesn't he just have the sweetest eyes? Cobe is a reticulated giraffe. He is 16 foot tall, and standing eye to eye with him is quite a feat <g>. He loves it when you feed him cut up carrots, but his favorite treat is a 'cookie' with peanut butter and bananas on it. The 'cookie' is actually a graham cracker! He reaches out with his 18 inch long tongue and takes it right out of your hand.

Cobe has an older half-brother named Boris, who is a year older than he is. Think Cobe is tall? Well, Boris is 19 feet tall! Boris just recently arrived, and didn't offer me the photo-op that Cobe did, but I plan to show a picture of him in the future.

He's Bee-u-tee-ful!  I remember as a kid going to the Stone Zoo in, where else, Stoneham Mass.  They had two giraffe's, one very tall and one very short.  I don't really recall the information about each of them in terms of names, ages, etc, but I do remember the tall one bending his neck and sticking that very long black tongue out for a treat!  It was so very cool.

You really ARE lucky to have intimate contact with such wonderful animals!  My nephew works at the zoo in Wichita and he gave me a private tour a few years back.  I got to get up close and personal with a pair of Galapogos tortoises.  I had no idea they made noise.  And I had no idea they liked to have their necks rubbed.  Magical.

Ahh, I knew I could come here and find a smile. Your right, you've got some amazing things that most people would never even dream of that have happened in your life. Especially since they have to do with incrediable animals.......
Take care you

Our first stop at the zoo is the African Rift Valley exhibit where the giraffes live.  The zoo sells 'giraffe crackers' so the visitors can feed the giraffes who reward us with photo ops.  (they really are camera hams!)
I would love to work at the zoo, and if ours wasn't so far I'd volunteer there.  Maybe when gas prices come down a bit...

I always wanted a giraffe... I never got one.. it explains my bitterness.
